Tarmac driveways in Leicester
The practical choice for larger areas, access roads and long drives — quick to lay, hard-wearing, and the lowest cost per square metre we offer.
When tarmac is the sensible answer
Tarmac is a bitumen-bound asphalt laid hot and compacted with a roller. It goes down fast, it takes vehicle loading extremely well, and per square metre it is the most economical surface we install — which is why it makes so much sense for long drives, farm and yard access, and larger commercial areas.
As always, the base does the work. We excavate, lay a compacted stone sub-base, then lay a base course and a finer wearing course on top, set to falls so water runs where you want it to rather than towards the house.
Finished edges matter too. We restrain tarmac with block paving, kerbs or concrete edging — an unrestrained edge crumbles under wheels within a few seasons.

Where tarmac wins
Best value per m²
For big areas — long drives, yards, access roads — nothing else covers the ground as economically.
Fast to install
Most domestic drives are surfaced in a day once the base is prepared, and usable soon after cooling.
Seamless and quiet
No joints to open up, no rattle from blocks, and a smooth ride onto the drive.
Takes heavy loading
Built up to the right specification it handles vans, deliveries and constant turning.
Simple to maintain
Very little to do beyond keeping it clear; it can be resealed to restore the colour.
Decorative finishes
Chip-and-seal or a red-tinted wearing course if you want something softer than plain black.
How we lay a tarmac driveway
- 01
Free survey and quote
We assess the existing surface, levels, drainage and access for machinery, then give you a fixed written price.
- 02
Excavation and sub-base
The old surface is broken out, a membrane laid, and a stone sub-base compacted in layers to suit the loading.
- 03
Edgings and falls
Kerbs, block edging or concrete edgings are set, and levels are worked so water drains away from the property.
- 04
Base and wearing course
A base course goes in first, then a finer wearing course laid hot and rolled to a dense, even finish.
- 05
Cooling and handover
The surface is left to cool before use. We clear the site and walk the finished job with you before signing off.
